Summary

Catalina only made her deal with the demon because she had nowhere else to go。 The world has kicked her every chance it got, so she’s all too happy to leave the realm she knows behind。 What’s the worst that could happen?

She doesn’t anticipate being auctioned away to a kraken。

Thane is cold and distant…but he’s not unkind。 Isolated as they are, Catalina finds herself seeking his company again and again。 And when she finally agrees to uphold her portion of the bargain?

That’s when things get really interesting。

But she only gave the demon seven years, and when the time is up, she’ll have no choice but to leave behind the kraken who’s stolen her heart and return to the world that doesn’t want her。

3。75 starsThis was so good。 I could have went with less politics in a novella, but not a huge deal。 The spice was fantastic。 I will say that I was definitely expecting there to be a lot more of it, but what was there was so good that it made up for it。 I really enjoyed this!!

3。5 ⭐️ rounded up for now but I might come back and round down depending on how I feel。 I think I was more interested in seeing more of Ramanu than any other character in this book。 I’m going to be reading their book next :)

Before reading, I read some reviews on this book that were incredibly nuanced and thoughtful regarding Thane's treatment of Catalina。 I'm going to shout out Valkyrie for having the most well thought out one。While I definitely agree with the statements made, and absolutely see how his treatment of her was harmful and hurtful, I admittedly would not have picked up on it without having been aware beforehand。I'm sure some part of me would've registered that I didn't like this book as much as Dragon' Before reading, I read some reviews on this book that were incredibly nuanced and thoughtful regarding Thane's treatment of Catalina。 I'm going to shout out Valkyrie for having the most well thought out one。While I definitely agree with the statements made, and absolutely see how his treatment of her was harmful and hurtful, I admittedly would not have picked up on it without having been aware beforehand。I'm sure some part of me would've registered that I didn't like this book as much as Dragon's Bride, but wouldn't have been able to articulate it or really known about it on more than a subconscious level。So while yes, I do agree, I'm gonna rate it 3 stars because it didn't detract from my personal reading experience。Hoping, however, the next books in the series live more up to Dragon's Bride! 。。。more

Wow I hated Catalina。 Every compliment the girl got turned into at least a paragraph of self hate (mostly referencing her late mother)。 “No one likes me I’m too loud, messy, fat, difficult etc。” it was never ending and it happened constantly throughout the entire book。 Thane was not much better and basically isolates the heroine in a tower by herself for a week because he’s sad over his previous humans death。 I’m not sure what I expected but this one was a slow and annoying read。 I’m glad Thane Wow I hated Catalina。 Every compliment the girl got turned into at least a paragraph of self hate (mostly referencing her late mother)。 “No one likes me I’m too loud, messy, fat, difficult etc。” it was never ending and it happened constantly throughout the entire book。 Thane was not much better and basically isolates the heroine in a tower by herself for a week because he’s sad over his previous humans death。 I’m not sure what I expected but this one was a slow and annoying read。 I’m glad Thane and Catalina found each other because no one else could stand them 。。。more

I know at this point that if I pick up a Katee Robert book, I will enjoy reading it。 I was curious about this particular series of hers, but there are some things I am just not into。 Also, it was a very short/quick read。

Really this book is 4。75 stars but I dont like to penalize the author for Goodread's inability to allow for partial stars。 The characters are so well written and the story flows。 I didnt read the first one but I definitely want to go back and do that and also buy the hard copy of both。 Really this book is 4。75 stars but I dont like to penalize the author for Goodread's inability to allow for partial stars。 The characters are so well written and the story flows。 I didnt read the first one but I definitely want to go back and do that and also buy the hard copy of both。 。。。more

I enjoyed this a lot more than the first as I felt this one had a bit more plot, so I'm excited to see where the third one goes as it ties in with queen of the vampire court! (Not fully but grace is mentioned) Relationship between the two is beautiful and I'm glad it was not some love at first sight, they both have had past traumas that they're still working through but now have eachother to lean on which gets my heart 💓💓The spice of course never fails for me。 The tentacles wow 👏wow 👏wow👏, darli I enjoyed this a lot more than the first as I felt this one had a bit more plot, so I'm excited to see where the third one goes as it ties in with queen of the vampire court! This was really bad。 Katee has so many great ideas, she just doesn’t give them enough time for good execution of them。 She releases multiple books a year and so none of them in my opinion are fleshed out enough。 This is the 4th book of hers I’ve read and I have the same opinion of all。 Such creative ideas but not enough time given to them。 This book was not good, it was the worst love interest I think I’ve ever read too。 Half the book is him talking about his dead husband and how he’s so much be This was really bad。 Katee has so many great ideas, she just doesn’t give them enough time for good execution of them。 She releases multiple books a year and so none of them in my opinion are fleshed out enough。 This is the 4th book of hers I’ve read and I have the same opinion of all。 Such creative ideas but not enough time given to them。 This book was not good, it was the worst love interest I think I’ve ever read too。 Half the book is him talking about his dead husband and how he’s so much better than our MC。 Plus they kept bringing up the dead husband and her bad mother and childhood trauma in weird parts?? Like they’ll be fucking and all of a sudden she’s thinking about her mum? Or he’s thinking about his dead husband? It’s just odd。 Plus the dingy and wet caves? Not my idea of a good romance setting。 Everything is always wet so I kept thinking about how everything would smell weird and probably be moist and mouldy。 That’s all I could think about plus it would be so dark。 Not a fun environment for a human。 The pronouns parts I am on the fence about。 I just don’t think they were naturally incorporated into the book。 Characters are introducing themselves as their name and pronouns and then the next chapter someone who uses neo pronouns assumes someone they don’t know is a she without knowing them。 That’s my thoughts。 。。。more

➝ 1 starthis book devastated me, but not in a good way。 our MC, catalina, was someone who very much wore her insecurities about being a perpetual disappointment to others on her sleeve。 this was clearly evident in the way she would respond to every single interaction she had, and was even further cemented with the lengthy, never-ending internal monologues she had running thru the story that just went on and on about her fear of never being wanted or loved。 as for the love interest, thane, he ➝ 1 starthis book devastated me, but not in a good way。 our MC, catalina, was someone who very much wore her insecurities about being a perpetual disappointment to others on her sleeve。 this was clearly evident in the way she would respond to every single interaction she had, and was even further cemented with the lengthy, never-ending internal monologues she had running thru the story that just went on and on about her fear of never being wanted or loved。 as for the love interest, thane, he was incredibly callous, inconsiderate, and cold-hearted。 you can attribute some of these qualities to the heartbreak he experienced from losing his husband a few years prior, but to pair someone who already has such a low sense of self-worth with someone who doesn't think twice about treating others like shit just screams a bad fucking time。from their very first interaction, thane treated catalina as nothing more than a nuisance, the exact sentiment that she had come to expect from every single person in her life。 from there, he would continue to hurt her feelings with every interaction, caused her life-threatening harm from his thoughtlessness, and then would completely abandon her for long stretches of time, isolating her from any form of social interaction with him or others。 the sheer cruelty of his actions made me absolutely SOB bc nobody deserves to be treated like this。i so badly wanted to DNF this book at around the halfway point, but stuck thru it for the sole reason of having to see how this story would play out。 i needed to understand how thane would turn things around, bc i just couldn't picture it。 unfortunately, what we got was so much worse than i could've ever imagined。 not only did he not grovel in the way he absolutely needed to, but he put her in harms way with his negligence AGAIN when catalina ended up with an unwanted pregnancy after the two of them had lots and lots of unprotected sex。 i don’t care that the intention was never to hurt catalina, bc the outcome remained the same, time and time again。 he hurt her。 these two remained a bad pairing all the way to the end of the book, and that might actually be the worst part of this entire reading experience。 bc all i feel when i think about this couple is complete and utter hopelessness。 。。。more

3。5? I’m glad these books are fairly short because even though I enjoy them, every main character seems to have a lot of issues。 Understandably, considering the basic theme running through all the books。 Making deals with demons isn’t typically something stable and happy people with no problems do。 The trauma, etc starts to be too much after a bit though。

honestly, this was a bit of a let down from what i was expecting。 i really liked the first book, and i felt like this just kinda missed the mark。 also, why was thane a total douchebag to catalina for the first like half of the book。 poor girl said that she was used to the neglectful abuse he was handing out, WHAT THE FUCK THANEEEE。

This book didn't work for me。1。 Katalina the heroine is a whiner。 Oh, everyone in my life has always said I'm too much。 My mom never wanted me to swim so I never learned how。 My boyfriend abandoned me on the side of the road so I ended up in a biker bar drinking them under the table。 I got cab fare home though。 I'm behind on my rent and I lost my job。 Anything even making a deal with a demon is better than having to tell my mom I need help。2。 Way too may unusual pronouns。 One of the demons want This book didn't work for me。1。 Katalina the heroine is a whiner。 Oh, everyone in my life has always said I'm too much。 My mom never wanted me to swim so I never learned how。 My boyfriend abandoned me on the side of the road so I ended up in a biker bar drinking them under the table。 I got cab fare home though。 I'm behind on my rent and I lost my job。 Anything even making a deal with a demon is better than having to tell my mom I need help。2。 Way too may unusual pronouns。 One of the demons want to be called they/them and the hero's sibling uses ze and zir。 It was beyond distracting and kept throwing me out of the story。3。 The hero keeps talking about his dead husband Brant and how much he misses him。 。。。more

Not as good as the first one in the series。 I liked the world-building of the Kracken's domain, but it felt a bit empty? During a couple of the scenes I felt that Thane could have been doing his taxes while all his tentacles were on autopilot - he seemed so disengaged。 Not as good as the first one in the series。 I liked the world-building of the Kracken's domain, but it felt a bit empty?
